SIX REASONS WHY
BATHS ARE GREAT
FOR YOUR HEALTH
As if you needed a better excuse for taking a dip in the most indulgent of home remedies......
Has that roomy tub in your master bath collected more dust than bubbles as of late? If so, it's time to reconsider your priorities. Taking a bath offers so many health benefits (better circulation! less stress! clean pores!), plus it's a convenient excuse to crack open a bottle of Prosecco after a long weekday.
If you're not a fan of bubble baths, it could be your technique. Read on for the benefits and life-changing ways to get the most out of your bath.
BEING HORIZONTAL IN WATER HELPS YOUR MOOD
It turns out that our bodies associate horizontal conditions with relaxation and vulnerability, particularly in the bath, which possibly mimics the warm, liquid conditions of the womb. One baby-bath manufacturer even makes baths that consciously feel like the womb , to calm any unhappy little ex-occupants. Some scholars think that this particular positioning gives us a sensation of security.
BATH HEAT CAN HELP WITH MUSCLE PAIN
Heat will get your blood moving, which is not only great for circulation but can also help sore or tight muscles to relax. The addition of epsom salts in your warm bath has been proven to help reduce inflammation in your joints caused by arthritis or other muscular diseases. The anti-inflammatory properties of salt baths have also shown to have positive effects on people suffering from metabolic diseases like type 2 diabetes.
HOT BATHS BEFORE BED CAN PRODUCE BETTER SLEEP
HOT BATHS BEFORE BED CAN PRODUCE BETTER SL
At night our body temperatures naturally drop, which signals the production of melatonin—or the sleeping hormone. Soaking in a warm bath will raise your body temperature, and exiting will more rapidly cool it down, thus instigating the production of melatonin, and better preparing you for sleep.
STEAM HELPS TO REDUCE COLD SYMPTOMS
Steam from a hot bath works wonders for stuffy noses and bad coughs. Congestion is caused by inflammation in your nasal passages, and steam gets the blood vessels in your face and nose moving, thus loosening any mucus blockage. A temperate bath can also help your immune system to better fight off viruses.
BATHS CAN SOOTHE IRRITATED SKIN
While scalding baths can make your skin more irritated, a warm bath—in combination with certain essential oils , like coconut, olive, or lavender, and also oatmeal—can better hydrate and heal dry or irritated skin. Plus, aromatherapy is great for regulating your mood or reducing stress.
A HOT BATH WILL BURN CALORIESminute walk.
Sure, a soak is no match for water aerobics or active hydrotherapy, but a good sweat induced by a hot bath can burn as many calories. Studies have shown that a hot bath soak will burn a whopping 130 calories - the same as a 30-minute walk.
HOW TO DRAW THE ULTIMATE HEALING BATH
The water temperature shouldn't too far exceed your own body temperature. While a hot bath feels great, a warm bath is better for your skin and immune system. Add oils like rose, lavender, calendula, aloe, oil, or coconut and also oatmeal for your skin. Epsom salt is great for your muscles and reducing any chances of infection. Keep part of your body, like your face, out of the water to prevent over-heating. Soak for 15-30 minutes, breathe, relax, enjoy.
NOT ALL BATH BOMBS ARE CREATED EQUAL
We all know when it comes to bath bombs, there's a lot of choices out there. From big chain retailers, to DIYers and home based businesses, the options are endless and we're ok with that! The more people relaxing in the tub, the more chill the world is for sure. BUT... Buyer beware!
There are many factors and characteristics that set ours apart and truly indeed, make ours the bomb. First, our bath bombs are hand made with love in small batches in Windham, New Hampshire in a small factory founded and run by one person that we go wayyy back with. We've been buying bath bombs from this same source since the 90's!
Just as important are the ingredients. Only the best, natural ingredients are used, none of the bad stuff, only the good. Our bath bombs are more than a pretty design putting on a show in your tub (although watching them fizz and bubble is truly an experience!). They leave your skin so soft and revitalized, truly addicting! Sink deep and breathe in the essential oils and emerge from the tub a whole new you! PS.. Just yesterday , four new fragrances, designed exclusively for us were personally delivered to us from NH! Come smell new Carribean Coconut, Galaxy Glitter Bomb, Love Yourself and Eucalyptus Spearmint!
HOW TO MAKE A REALLY BUBBLY BATH
To create an optimal amount of bubbles, it's advised to wait until there's a couple of inches of water in the tub before adding your chosen bubble bath. When pouring in your bubble bath, add it slowly and right underneath the running water. Agitate the water with your hand and a natural sponge before you get in. The more water pressure you have, the more bubbles you'll get.
INVEST IN A BATH CADDY
Because, obviously, you need a place to set your wine glass, book (or tablet) and other bubble bath essentials. The slippery sides of your bathtub will not do. Skip the cheap plastic caddies, though, and opt for a spa-like version, such as this bamboo bathtub caddy that's expandable and will also hold your candle or soap.
OUR BATH PILLOWS MAKE IT SO YOU NEVER WANT TO GET OUT OF THE TUB
Bath pillows are the unsung heroes of the bathroom. Wrong posture can harm your spinal cord resulting in back pain in the long run. The softness of a bath pillow is very forgiving and it helps you relax more without the
need to compromise stability.
SCENTED CANDLES WILL ENHANCE YOUR BATH EXPERIENCE
Low lights are perfect for telling your mind and body that it's time to wind down and relax. Scented candles can go a long way to making your time spent in the bath a lot more calming and soothing. Light a candle and turn off the lights, so bath time is lighted only by the flicker of the flame.
GET IN THE VIBE WITH THE RIGHT MUSIC
When taking a relaxing bath, it's not only the products inside the tub that matter, it's the whole bath setting. So to help you get the most out of your soak, Soakology has compiled this playlist of relaxing songs to accompany your bath. Adele – Make You Feel My Love. Katie Melua – The Closest Thing to Crazy. Ed Sheeran – Kiss Me. John Legend – Ordinary People. Corinne Bailey Rae – Put Your Records On. Damien Rice – Delicate. Enya – Only Time. Birdy – Skinny
DON'T FORGET TO INDULGE YOURSELF
It can be hard to make time to treat yourself. But an indulgent bath can do wonders for your sense of wellbeing and will help reduce stress levels. Arm yourself with your favorite towel, candles and a good book or life-affirming podcast. Pour yourself a glass of wine or make a mug of herbal tea. Lock the door. Try a face mask for a truly spa-like experience, like our Papaya and Honeysuckle Mask . After your bath, slather on some decadent skin cream such as our new Beekman 1802 Ylang Ylang Body Butter and wrap yourself in a luxurious bath robe. Then waft fragrantly back into the domestic world, refreshed, rejuvenated and feeling good.
Bath time doesn’t have to be just about getting clean. It can be a time to relax before bed, to gather your thoughts or to muster energy for the coming day. Whether you want to unwind, to indulge or to energize, a good soak in the bath can be just what you need. I hope you make time for these bath time rituals, each designed to leave you feeling happier, calmer and ready to tackle your day. And if you have any questions or need some suggestions, just ask! That's what we're here for!
